Review on 📻 QYT KT-8900D: Compact Dual Band Car Radio Mobile Transceiver with VHF UHF and Mini Design by Sam Simone

For the money spent this is a great little radio. It's a bit tricky to code, but there are good guides on YouTube to help you with it. When programming the fanouts for the repeaters from the front of the unit it's important to remember to program all the tones at the same time at the receive frequency... What confused me was that even with the correct offset I couldn't hit the amplifiers. Some research has shown that you MUST set the transmit frequency as well by going back to the VFO, dialing in the transmission you want and re-storing to the same channel. It appears that the offset does not indicate that the radio is transmitting at the desired offset without determining the frequency. (Mentioned in the title) The quad monitor is a great feature that I've never seen before. Very useful when you need to monitor 2-4 frequencies at the same time, but unlike others in this price range there is no dual PTT. The maximum output power of 25W is more than sufficient for most situations in my area, but with the antenna I use I usually find a lot of dead spots that I normally wouldn't find. As always, use a quality antenna and a good mounting solution for best results. My needs didn't factor in a better antenna mount. The radio tends to get warm with prolonged use, much hotter than most others I've used. Even with a computer fan on the heatsink (factory installed), the temperature on the outer case easily exceeds 100F. Finally, the microphone is very sensitive. Too far and you can barely hear, too close and you'll overload the microphone. All in all a great radio for the price... It's not a great brand quality but it meets my needs and most importantly it fits in my small car without being in the way.
