Be careful if you are a Windows user. Setup can be a bit confusing and the instructions on the G-Technology website are almost non-existent, or you'll need an engineering degree to understand them. My salvation was my 15 years of experience in IT. For Thunderbolt to work I had to update the BIOS, drivers and Thunderbolt control application. If you're using this with a laptop, you may need to change the power setting under "USB Root Hub Power Management" in Device Manager. I had to change it so the laptop doesn't control the current to save power. If it stayed on, I kept losing connection to the G-Raid drive and it corrupted my Lightroom catalog. I set up the drive in Raid 1. I ran a multi-speed test using Thunderbolt 40 Gps, Thunderbolt 20 Gps, and a USB connection. and the results with Raid 1 are such that there is no difference in speed on 2 different computers. My results were around 260MB/s read and 245MB/s write no matter which cable or connection I used. So I'm not sure why you've ever used expensive Thunderbolt 40 Gps cables. As a side note, using an Active Thunderbolt 3 cable didn't really work for me, the laptop didn't like it at all, I kept getting Driver Error Blue Screen of Death.
