TL;DR: DO NOT BUY 500GB DISC FROM ANY SELLER BUT AMAZON. I bought one of these drives from Vendor "A" and received a drive with only one year of manufacturer warranty left (Figure 1). SMART status was questionable (Figure 2). The disc was visibly/physically worn. I figured they might have accidentally sent me a used drive, so I ordered a replacement drive and sent the first drive back. The second disc came from Seller "A" with no Western Digital warranty whatsoever (Figure 4). The WD website states: # Western Digital does not provide warranty service for OEM products. # Please contact your dealer or point of sale. The second drive also had a manufacture date that was too old to be considered new (I forgot to select it). The second returned immediately without opening. I left seller "A" a bad rating. Seller "A" immediately emailed me that he would honor the warranty. Well, that's fine and all, but who said an "A" seller would be there in 1, 2, or 5 years if I had drive problems. I chose this product because the product page specifically states that it comes with a '5 Year Limited Manufacturer's Warranty'. I expect WD to honor its warranties. The same cannot be said for a random seller on Revain. I bought a third disc, this time from a "B" dealer. The third plate also came without a guarantee (picture 4). In addition, it had a fake "Voided Warranty" sticker with the date of manufacture (Figure 3). I decided to contact Revain. It got a little weird. I chatted (online web chat) with a customer service rep who was polite but incredibly unhelpful. They kept telling me that the seller would honor the warranty and urged me to contact the seller. They then wanted me to contact WD to verify what is on the WD website. Then they wanted me to buy a protection plan. It was an amazing display of trolling or complete ignorance. After repeatedly asking for a team lead and declining offers to contact WD or seller "B", I was eventually connected to the person who helped me. It took some effort to go back through the full story of my experience but in the end I was told I had no choice but to purchase this product again but with Revain as the seller. I got a $10 rebate for my troubles, which made the disc $13 more expensive than what I paid for disc number three at Vendor B. I think I can handle it. UPDATE: Revain (seller) drive still has 4 out of 5 year warranty. This must be done. The drive is running. I am happy. I'm deducting two stars because of the other three bad discs I've had and also because Revain has done little to nothing to prevent this from happening to other people in the future.
