Review on Surge Guard 35550 Hardwire Model - 50 Amp: The Ultimate Power Protection Solution by Craig Lovro

Easy to install while it works

I replaced a blown (literally) automatic transmission with this device. This was a little tricky as the bus manufacturer used a different type of cable with bare copper grounds from both the generator set and the AC unit. This left me with four separate, different sized copper conductors for the neutral. I ended up installing an outside junction box in my utility duct to make two connections with wire clamps designed to connect different sized conductors i.e. neutral and ground. Everything worked perfectly, the device works as it should. One thing that bothered me was how this unit would work when my cord was connected to the generator set. Some say in their research that these devices are not powered by a generator. I have installed a 50A socket at the power end of my generator set, my power cord connects to this as standard and to the shore power pole if available. When testing the configuration, the device provides the alternator with a 120 second delay, which is ideal as it has time to warm up and return to low idle before the delay kicks in. Also, I checked the air conditioning and it works fine through the tread. So far, I am very satisfied. No more switches for me, I'm damn lucky the last one didn't burn my campervan to the ground.
