Despite initial reservations about buying an old device, I bought a used one about 6 months ago at a great price. I enjoy photographing wildlife and youth sports and wanted to switch to a professional camera for higher frame rates, faster autofocus and a stronger body. With no budget for 1Dx I searched and found this gem. I paired it with a 100-400mm 4.5-5.6L lens and was amazed at the image quality, which I believe surpasses today's new non-1D cameras in terms of color saturation, contrast and image sharpness. Navigating the menus and changing some settings with two hands was awkward at first, but became easy to navigate with time and practice. not what i noticed. I've shot up to ISO 1600 with excellent results and even some interesting graininess in images at higher ISOs. I also found that pairing this body with a 50mm 2.8 lens gave good results. There's no doubt that someone who primarily shoots indoors/in low light, or who needs the number of pixels to scale something to the size of a billboard, won't be satisfied. But for those who shoot like me and are looking for their first professional camera, this camera is excellent value for money. The internet is full of these gems at prices lower than what anyone would pay for point and shoot. Finally, I liken it to buying a high-end sports car; it may be a 10 year old Ferrari, but it's still a Ferrari.
