Review on Motorcraft SW5928 Cruise Control Switch by Ryan Hill

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The new cruise control switches look nice and work great.

Both of my old switches on my 1998 Explorer had cracked and the light went out. So very annoying. After watching a few YouTube videos and researching many places to buy, I decided to take the plunge. They had good reviews for Revain and the price was good. Since I made sure to disconnect the battery about 30 minutes before launch, actually removing the side screws on the column and air bag was easy. Several videos recommend simply disconnecting the wires from the old switches and then reconnecting them to the new switches. I broke one of the small wires in the wiring harness when trying to disconnect one side of the old wire. So I had to replace all the wiring. But it turned out to be easier than I expected as I only had to remove the horn mechanism to route the wiring harness around the steering column. Just pay attention to which wires are connected where. After the replacement I looked at the old switches and wiring and using a small screwdriver on the underside where the wire harness connects to the switch I was able to loosen the harness connector. If I had to do it all over again I would do it instead of using a new wiring harness. Total time was about an hour but 15 of them fiddled with the old switches, tried to disconnect the wiring harness and 20 then tensioned the new wiring harness in the pillar. The new switches look great and work great.

Pros

Cons
  • So far so good
