Review on πŸ”§ Enhanced Super Swabs for Weld 14109 Replacement by Carl Morgan

Revainrating 5 out of 5

They are large and have handles

These swabs are excellent, they hold a lot of PVC glue. Each replacement tampon comes with its own wire "handle" already attached, so it is not as you see in the product image where there is no wire. They are huge, part of the tampon is at least 4 inches. I work with 4" PVC and am able to get good coverage with these swabs as opposed to the small 3/4" or 1" swab ball that comes with the kit. in an 8 ounce can of Oatey PVC cement which I had to keep dipping. With these tampons I only need 3 adhesive pads: tube, hub, tube. To work with 4" PVC you really need at least a 1-1/2" swab, preferably 2" (because the sleeve is about 1-3/4" long). Once you've done this you can apply the cement faster and trust me if you have this quick setting oatmeal cement you can take advantage of those extra seconds. I can't find anywhere that sells 2 inch swabs you understand. I consider these swabs disposable as they are so large and I don't have the right size glue or custom welded cap of the right size. When I'm done with the swab, I push the cement back into the jar: I take the swab, hold it over the hole with one hand and push the cement into the jar with my other hand wearing neoprene gloves. I haven't figured it out yet. I'm a homeowner working on a plumbing project, not a plumber. I uploaded two pictures to show you what a tampon looks like. Each tampon has its own handle. After the swab turns purple it is used because I needed to coat the tube and hub with a purple primer before applying the cement (most codes require this) and when the cement is applied over it it takes away some of the purple on.

Pros
  • Non-abrasive swab material ideal for smooth application of cement or primer
