Review on 🚪 Summer Infant 27903Z Banister & Stair Safety Gate: Extra Wide Door, Metal, 31"-46" - White - Easy Access & Security by Sarita Smith

We installed this gate about 2 months ago. I cannot fully vouch for the installation, but my husband did it quickly enough. We installed it in the wall on one side and around the railing on the other. My biggest complaint is that there is nothing attached to the locking mechanism on the side of the railing, so after a few openings of the gate, which consists of pulling up and towards you, the mechanism slides up. This causes a few problems. 1 is that it doesn't lock completely. The other one that almost caused a serious accident - I stepped through the gate and walked down the stairs with a baby in my arms. I pulled the gate behind me to close it and the latch missed the locking mechanism completely. Because of my weight shifting to close the gate and the fact that it didn't stop when it should have stopped, I almost fell down the stairs with my 8 month old. We are planning to install something around the bar to make the locking mechanism work, but for now I just snap the bar back into place every time I open the gate. Considering I paid $100 for this gate I really think it should come with something to hold it in place but I guess beggars can't decide and we were desperate for one a goal. Because those are the only ones I could find. attaches to railings without damaging them - I'm willing to leave them on but definitely need an update.
