Best 2.5 " Shell I Know

Solid State Drives can draw 12W or more. Attempting to power them from standard USB ports that only provide 4.5W can result in slowdowns, device connection issues, or even data loss. Some specific USB ports and cables can deliver more power, but require the connector, cable, and enclosure to use the same USB Power Delivery protocol or a similar protocol. DC input, in this case like a barrel connector What I like most and least about this case: Plus: + Uses a modern ASM235CM chipset. .)+ DC power supply via hollow jack.+ Physical on/off switch.+ LED power indicator. Bright enough but not glaring.(Again, more manufacturers should do this.)+ Sturdy metal construction -> good heat dissipation.+ The drive is securely fastened in the case is. Rubber feet are included to keep the case in place and not scratch the table surface. + Quite small and attractive. on the sensitive SATA connectors of the drive. One way to fix this is to temporarily separate the internal circuit board from the case body by tilting it so that the drive can be inserted directly into the circuit board slot. Unfortunately, the board is held in place by two metal tabs that seem to come loose when flexed; I think they are aluminum. So I gritted my teeth and put my expensive SSD in at an angle. Grr.- The design makes it difficult to remove an installed drive without damaging the case, the drive, or both. It's definitely better to treat this as a more or less permanent installation. Use a different spelling if you want to swap drives. The DC connector in the barrel jack is an unusual size of 3.5/1.3mm, severely limiting your AC adapter choices. (Oyen sells one, and I got one from a USB hub that works too.) I wish Oyen would use a regular 5.5/2.5mm or 5.5/2.1mm jack instead use. Other: * USB-C connector is used. Not sure if he is talking about USB Power Delivery protocol to provide more power. The connector itself is non-directional and more durable than the micro-USB connector used in some other cases. A full-size USB-A will also work for my purposes, but USB-C is probably better for the future. I bought a StarTech USB31AC1M and this combination works well. * Please note that the power adapter is NOT included. (And that you need an unusual size.)

Pros
  • Outstanding Design
Cons
  • Crumpled Packaging
