You know what they say, it's about how you sell your product. This "kit" for brewing beer calls itself "kit" but they added "ingredient" to their name - now that I have it, I understand they only wanted to give you some of the ingredients, but this is NOT a complete brow kit. Beer. So for about $45 you get a bunch of low quality corn sugar/base sugar, malt extract and a few packets of hops. Since their list doesn't say what you actually need to brew beer and since I was new to home brewing I had no idea what I needed, I learned the hard way and after spending over $200 I got what I needed to make beer. So here's what this beer set does NOT include: - Bottles (there are only bottle caps, which is ridiculous because when you order packs of bottles from Revain, you get bottle caps with them, so those caps were a waste and went straight into the bin) - a specific gravity hydrometer you can't make beer without, even if you follow your own instructions. This is a MANDATORY item and NOT included. - You will need a HUGE pot when initially boiling/heating the liquid. You want you to put all the ingredients in the full amount (5 gallons) of liquid, so you'll need a 6 gallon pot so you don't spill anything. You will need a food thermometer to check the temperature of the liquid as it cooks, as per the instructions. Keep the temp around 160 degrees Fahrenheit and don't go above 170 (this was tricky with a huge pot of liquid) - you will need 2 buckets according to their instructions - a fermenting bucket and a pump/bottling bucket at the end of fermentation - you will need air fermenter locks - You need a clean hose to transfer the liquid from the fermentation bucket to the bottling bucket. I had to siphon the old fashioned way, sucking on the tube to pour the liquid out and then pouring it into another bucket. Of course, if you're making beer for other people, you don't want to do that, so you'll need some other method of draining the liquid - their manual recommends sanitizing the gear with Star San, so you'll have to buy that separately - All of their ingredients are except measured before the sugar base. The package is 5 oz but they want you to fill in 4.5 oz by weight. But luckily I had a 4.5 ounce scale - at the end of the whole process you might want to filter your beer like I did. Proper beer filtration systems sell for $60 at Revain. I was tired of spending that kind of money so I just used a nut milk bag which doesn't filter 100% but filters 60-70%. So you're done. COMPLETE list of necessary things. This 'kit' gives you none of that, so your actual cost with this kit is actually $250-$300. Remember. Even my regular organic cane sugar, when it falls on the kitchen counter, attracts ants. But I accidentally left corn sugar open and on the counter, some of which was spilled on the counter during the process. It didn't attract ants. This is a good test for me to see if this corn sugar isn't suitable. I threw it away and used my own organic ground cane sugar to make it better.
