My Wii has stopped reading discs and isn't responding to suggested online fixes like cleaning the laser lens. I ended up taking it apart with a special tool (a triangular screwdriver) that Nintendo ALWAYS forces you to purchase (GRRRRRR - this is for YOU Nintendo, stop tugging at us and use regular screws). I found that the laser wasn't moving due to a faulty motor driving the laser lens. While you can replace just the motor, the entire drive costs about the same and is much easier to replace. There were no problems with the new drive. It went in easily and the Wii worked as soon as I put it back together. You should spend some time watching a few Wii disassembly videos, checking the drive for noise and possible causes, dusting and dealing with discs that won't load to get comfortable with the work and what else to check when disassembling. Be sure to pay attention to which screws go where, as there are multiple sizes and types. Also, this little piece of plastic with a small piece of metal that falls out, which nobody shows in their videos so you can't figure out where it is, is on the left side when you look at the slot where the DVD is inserted ! Twist sideways to adjust.
