My garage door opener burned out after a power surge and I had an old surge protector. I decided to buy a new one and ordered a Tripp Lite portable surge protector. I needed something small that's just for one device and hangs from an outlet in the ceiling. The device has a red and green light to indicate that everything is working properly. Using the Tripp Lite device, I found that the outlet was not grounded and that was probably why the old garage door opener had blown. I had an electrician ground the outlet and now both bulbs are lit. Now I can be sure I won't have to burn out a garage door opener again. A very good device that gives me peace of mind.
