They work as intended, but for me there is a problem and a concern. My concern is that one of the wing nuts used to tighten/lock the telescoping section broke off the first time it was tightened. The bolt is steel and the nut is also steel, but the nut is stuck in a plastic wing nut that fell off immediately. And before you accuse me of using gorilla power, I haven't, but also remember this is meant to be hung from a ceiling with lights etc. Strong tightening is essential to keep your $1,000 gear from falling off the ceiling. Also, I'm worried about the base of the mountain. When this bracket is fully extended, any accidental lateral movement on the baseplate will be amplified. I'm afraid it will easily break off the bottom plate and my gear will fall on the floor. This area needs to be strengthened.
