I recently bought a teapot, washed it according to the instructions, I use it. The french press tea and coffee I prepared smelled and had a strong chemical/plastic taste. I washed it again, then boiled a pot of water with lemon and baking soda, then boiled a pot of plain water, washed again, then brewed some more tea. However, the taste and smell were terrible - even my husband, who never tastes or smells anything, found it overwhelming. I called OXO - I was answered by a live person, he was very nice and told me that this is 'very rare' and is a factory marriage and offered to exchange it. Got a second kettle yesterday and same thing happened - same horrible chemical smell/taste that won't wash off. I sent it back and bought a completely different kettle. I would not recommend this product. Too bad because it looks really nice and I like OXO products in general.
