Works great with sugar thread. I haven't tried it with caramel yet, it will definitely take longer with caramel. PROS: Easy to use, fairly easy to clean. CONS: A scoop of powdered sugar only makes a small cone of waffles. The directions say to only use 1 scoop at a time. It takes time to make cones for multiple kids. Definitely not for mass production. The kids have most likely already eaten theirs and will be asking for more before eating the next waffle. TIPS: I've learned that if you lift the cone higher in the air, the cotton candy will appear larger than if you hold it very close to the slingshot. It's still the same amount but looks more impressive to little eyes. If you spin the cone too fast, the cotton candy will also flatten (become denser). You should also pause the machine long enough to add the next scoop of sugar and turn it back on to warm it up. If it cools down too much, you will have to wait longer for it to work. FYI: I was surprised when a ring of sugar started to form on the edge of the machine. It's actually part of the design and how the sugar becomes thread. It seems wasteful, but that's how cotton candy is made. I was just thinking about it, but I bet the hard ring of sugar that comes out each time could probably be reused. π€. I recommend? Yes. Disadvantages for us were insignificant. My kids don't need too much sugar anyway. They loved it and it was easy. I just had to set the two-cone boundary for my own sanity. π
