I have owned this appliance for three and a half years and it has grilled fish and steaks well. With experience, you can learn to interpret the different color levels of lighting in relation to cooking meat exactly the way you like it. It's also fairly easy to clean as the cooking plates are removable and dishwasher safe. So in terms of functionality, the Opti-Grill is pretty good. HOWEVER, after three and a half years of regular, but really only occasional use, it suffered from a horrendous "blinking white light" malfunction. According to T-fal, the remedy is to send it in for repairs. Let's be honest, few of us will, not only because of the hassle and expense of shipping something heavy using private or public transport (during a pandemic!), but also because of the suspicion that repairs are almost as expensive. like a substitute. . When a modern device that costs less than $150 fails, most of us assume it's dead. So I thought. HOWEVER, no matter what mistakes I have (many), I am adamant in my resolve when I decide to try to fix something. So I searched the internet, tried some "fixes" that didn't work, and finally found a bunch of Pocus tricks that worked. And if it were right here in the Revain reviews. Introduced for other frustrated T Fal owners, you need something to use as a 1-1/2 inch spacer in the recalibration process. An oven mitt or hot mat, a rolled piece of aluminum foil, or even a wooden spoon. This spacer must be at least 1-1/2" high and no more than 2" high for proper platen alignment: For model GC7021 Plug in the unit. 2. Simultaneously press and hold the following buttons for 3 seconds: Burger + Fish + Manual and release the buttons. 3. The "Steak" button flashes 3 times. Place the gasket between the grill plates and close the lid. 5. Press and release the "Steak" button once. 6. Open the grill and remove the gasket, then close the grill. 7. Unplug the power cord - follow these steps. For additional instructions: 1. Simultaneously press and hold the following Burger + Poultry + Manual buttons until the machine beeps and the blue light comes on.2. Open the lid.3. When the device indicator turns red, open the grille and insert the gasket, close the cover until the indicator goes off.4. Open the grill and remove the seal, close the grill and disconnect for 10 seconds.5. Plug the grill back in and the unit will reset. If the display goes blank in step 3, perform the following additional steps: 1. Install the spacer2. Close the lid3. After 3 seconds, the device indicator turns green and then beeps.4. Open the cover, the indicator turns red and the device beeps.5. Remove the seal and close the cover6. Press the power button three times, each press changes the indicator from yellow to orange to red.7. Turn off the device for 10 seconds.8. Turn the grill back on and the unit will reset. I had to try multiple times to get the exact order (or correct word spellings). But it worked out and I'm back in the grill business. For this reason, I have upgraded my initially angry rating from two to three stars. Only three stars, firstly because the device seems to crash fairly easily, and secondly because I had to resort to Sherlock Holmes' online behavior to find this fix. I didn't get it directly from T-Fal. Shame on you.
