Review on 🤖 iRobot Roomba i3 (3150) Wi-Fi Connected Robot Vacuum - Mapping, Alexa Compatible, Best for Pet Hair & Carpets by Amanda Thomas

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Best budget Roombas upgradeable to i3+

1 year update: September 2021 Brushes work well. It's still as loud as day one, so I don't think anyone is saying "the noise will decrease as the roller wears out". I noticed that strong vacuuming picked up some fluff from the carpet, at first I thought it was dust coming off our carpet, but after comparing it to another vacuum cleaner I thought it was due to the lifting and sucking of the two rollers of the I3 was caused. In hindsight, I think it's better to upgrade to the I3+ or other self-draining ones, since a Roomba with good suction fills the bin quickly, and without a self-cleaning station, my I3 pauses more often than it finishes (unless I'm emptying the bin). ), in the last month I've had 2 out of 5 successful attempts to clean the entire house. Keeping the rating and recommending this I3, it's unique, simple but smart in its own way compared to laser navigation which is map limited (unless they have multi-story mapping). Original review below (September 2020) Summary: iRobot Roomba i3 is a new generation robot vacuum cleaner (a step back to the s series) that has the advantages of an i7 body with a suction power of about 10 times the power (compared to the 600 series vacuum cleaners) and iAdapt 2.0 navigation (compared to the 980 models) for efficient cleaning. However, this is a budget version of iRobot with no vSLAM or fingerprint reader, allowing you to use multiple floors or customize how the room is cleaned. If you are a fan of the iRobot technology and you can never get one due to the high price, then this i3 version is for you. It's an efficient robot that navigates well, works in the dark, vacuums well, and can "charge and pick up" for a complete house clean. Performance: Roomba i3 has good suction power and works great on both hardwood and carpet. However, it is very noisy on tile and wooden floors, but works on carpet. If you have pets and carpeted floors, this is the perfect choice for a vacuum cleaner. I've tested the i3's edge and corner cleaning abilities, it works reasonably well thanks to the side brush that helps rake dirt from the edges. I put some rice on the edges, narrow corners with 90 degree and 120 degree corners (see pictures), i3 chose 100% right angles and about 90% clean from big corners. Key performance differences from other models: - Roomba i3's performance boost comes from iAdapt 2.0 navigation with floor sensors that guide you in straight lines. In fact, other i-Series models like the i7 use advanced iAdapt 3.0 navigation coupled with a vSLAM (Visual Location Modeling and Mapping) camera that can create fingerprint maps to erase selected areas as well as restricted areas. On the other hand, the i3 model has the advantage of being able to work in the dark as there is no visual camera work to navigate. The Charge and Resume feature is also a new feature from Roomba for a budget robot. This helps the i3 complete the cleaning of the entire house regardless of the size of the floor. Cleanliness maps are generated at the end of a cycle to see where Roomba has cleaned. There is dirt detection technology (basically a floor sensor) that activates automatically when the robot detects dirt and makes multiple passes until it detects dirt. - Although i3 generates clean maps, there is no learning methodology, so each cycle is a new mission. and there will be no improvement in vacuum cycles like the high-end i7 and s9 models. The i3 can be upgraded to the i3+ by separately purchasing the Clean Base Auto Disposal Unit. Software and Application: iRobot has one of the best interfaces. robot hoover on the market, you can set it up quickly with a simple step-by-step guide with pictures and/or suggestions. The app is easy to navigate without too much clutter, it's easy to use and I haven't had any crashes so far. In case of problems, Roomba provides an error code in the application and step-by-step instructions to help you quickly solve the problem. Notable improvements in Roomba's software, the i3 mostly makes straight lines even without visual or laser navigation equipment. It's amazing how efficiently (not as efficient as high-end vSLAM or LIDAR navigation, but much better than cross-country navigation) the i3 can both drive straight lines and clean under furniture without stalling stay, thanks to the software. Watch a video showing the bumper sensor rotating to clean under the dining table. Battery (runtime): Roomba i3 delivers a stable runtime of 90 minutes (so far) before it needs to be charged and can pick up where it left off with no further action. Questions. I successfully cleared the whole house with a pause to recharge, it picks up where it left off. Technologies and sensors: Roomba i3 is a budget version, especially compared to i7, s9 or 980, it has no video localization (ie camera). This is reflected in the price of the i3, but there are robot vacuums from Neato, Roborock and Eufy that feature advanced vSLAM (camera-based) or LIDAR (laser-based) navigation, making the cleaning process faster and more efficient. However, I think i3 does a good job of cleaning up with only a few random paths (when it needs to find an anchor point to locate) and mostly direct (efficient) paths. It has a fall sensor to avoid falling down stairs, dirt sensors (optical) and a shock sensor. Since it doesn't have an advanced position sensor, it can't find the dock unless it started the mission from there or it's close enough in base IR range. Maintenance: The i3 is easy to clean both the dust box and the lower rollers. However, the dust box has deep right angles that are difficult to clean. If there's a difficult-to-clean mess, with just dust, that shouldn't be a problem. Customer Support: All Roomba come with a 1-year limited warranty, which is the industry standard. No other well-known brands offer more than one year. I have contacted customer service with several questions about i3 learning features and have only received one response out of three emails and the one response I received was 'copy and paste' from the website and did not come up my specific question. iRobot is an American company and I hope the email response I received does not reflect who they are. Finally, I hope this review helps you in some way with your Roomba i3 purchase decision!
