Only thing I found to replace the crappy head unit in my Tacoma

. Toyota has caused audiophiles and folks like me who want just a little more functionality in their mobile body armor (truck) to get upset. . My Tacoma's built-in stereo was fine. not the best, had a decent radio, decent cd, decent sound. but I wanted more, aux-in, mp3-cd, HD radio and maybe better sound. However, Toyota decided to make a proprietary stereo system with a molding around the unit. Most cars and trucks have a standard din or double din mount. I looked around at the prices and found that Toyota doesn't have spare stereos. Enter Skosche. This is amazing stuff, it replaces the proprietary radio in my truck, gives me the freedom to choose what I WANT and not what Toyota thinks I need. Owning junk is always a bad move for a company, Toyota loses money on stereo upgrades. by MANY people like me. Pros of this unit: A: The only one I have found to allow me to replace the head unit/dashboard in my Tacoma. B: Has a handy pocket for stuff C: Matches the colors in your truck Warnings: A: Molded plastic, not the same quality as the factory plastic, also the stock Toyota unit has metal brackets to hold it in the dash, this one is just plastic. The dash molding isn't textured like the Toyota rear either (just a side note). B: The pocket could be deeper, it hardly fits in a CD case, it could also be tilted down to prevent anything from flying out during transport. Brackets are associated with this bag to mount it in the dash, which likely explains this design choice. Make sure it matches the original color. I absentmindedly bought the gray one when my old block was black. This is normal as the other trim panels in the cabin are also grey, but most of the dashboard and components are black. It's my fault, not Scoche's. Also, don't forget to buy a wire harness (that's the adapter plug for your stereo). Enjoy, I saved about $500 on installation by doing it myself.

Pros
  • . Easy to use
Cons
  • . Concise instructions
