Review on πŸ”§ Makita AD03R1 Right Angle Drill: Efficient and Reliable Power Tool for Any Job by Jose Mcdaniel

Excellent Drill

I love this drill. Allows me to get into hard-to-reach places and has a lot of power. Ignore the keyed chuck as it reduces headroom and is more durable than a chuckless chuck. If I was going to use it for heavy duty tasks, I think a wired version would be suitable. I would like to point out that this 12v version is arguably better and cheaper than the 18v versions. Oddly enough, the ADO3R1 has 245psi of torque and 0-1100rpm and weighs 2.6lbs with battery. The 18-volt XAD01z and cartridgeless XAD02z have just 121 lb-ft of torque from 0-1800 rpm and weigh 4 lbs with battery. So 18 volt angle drills have less torque and weigh a little more, with their only benefit being their increased RPM from 1100 to 1800 and the side handle. I like having 2x torque and I bought an AD03R1 and it works great. Being lighter, smaller and having a little more headroom is a good thing. (2 1/2 vs 2 3/8) The only thing I wish was they made the body to also fit a Makita 12v right angle impact wrench as I like to keep them together . Incidentally, 12V and 18V impact wrenches have the same speed and torque.
