I bought the 3 1/2" white version because the portion of my trailer I mounted it on is white. I wanted the door to be as close to it as possible of the wall so I went with the shorter version.I suggest placing the bracket closer to the bottom of the door so you can still lock it no matter the height of your trailer.I looked where I wanted and marked with a marker. My dad helped me put silicone on both pieces to keep water off them and to secure the fit. The screws that were provided were perfect and they didn't pierce the other side or anything. I have a Forest River vibe and I do don't think they saw the need to add it but in my area the wind is so strong it kept slamming the door, I couldn't open the door at all on hot days open. . I'm so glad I bought this, it was worth every penny so I could keep my door open and not have to worry about it constantly slamming. You can tell the plastic material is a little cheap, but it does the job so I'm not worried.
