This coat is just about perfect for keeping my 14 year old dog with arthritis as warm and dry as possible during the midwestern winter. The high collar offers excellent additional protection, as does the wide chest band. The elasticated hind leg loops (at the bottom) are designed to keep the coat in place even on very windy days and I'm sure they serve that purpose very well - for those who can really put their dog in them. My dog, as mentioned, has arthritis, so forcing his leg in an unnatural way to put it through the elastic strap just won't work, even quickly. If Weatherbeeta could improve on that aspect of the design, like adding velcro or buttons, this would be the best dog jacket I've ever owned. Anyway, the coat is thick and stiff enough that in gusts of wind it doesn't blow up nearly as hard as other coats we have, which is good for keeping old hips warm. It's also very easy to put on and adjust, especially for older dogs: simply slip it over your head and fasten the velcro straps on the sides to the length that suits your dog best. This coat really is the best I've found; I just wish they would fix that so those of us whose dogs don't exercise can actually use the back strap feature.
