A 7 year old (usually wearing a medium top and 8H bottoms) wears a size 11/12 and could probably use a size 13/14 for more freedom in the instep, but the legs would probably be too long. I cut out the mesh lining because it went up and the instep was too short. My son has complained that the lining is uncomfortable and the suit slides down to reveal a tear! Removing the liner greatly improved the fit and now he loves it. So I would buy them again and remove the lining because I don't like the oversized baggy boys' swimsuits that are currently on the market and I don't like the tight jammers. After many years of searching this is the best we have found which is why they get 4 stars. We have a navy blue tiki style and we love this color. He wore a ton of it with very little fading/pilling.
