Review on ๐Ÿ’ก Corsair SF450 SFX Power Supply - 450W, 80+ Platinum Certified, Fully Modular (CP-9020181-NA) by Vincent Burton

Exceptional quality

I was thrilled to hear that Seasonic makes SFX power supplies for the SFFPC. But after reading the early reviews from several reputable reviewers, I was disappointed that Seasonic seemed to have rushed to market their SFX products. I was particularly struck by the relatively poor build quality inside the power supply, which I may be exaggerating a bit. How painstakingly and obsessively compulsively a typical factory worker spends time assembling a typical device, pouring love into the innards of a power supply that likely no one will ever see again, tells me a lot about how likely it is that the power supply will be in fail in the next 10 years. Because every solder joint, every connection, every electrical wiring - all of this not only influences daily productivity, but also the probability of failure. So when I saw the innards of Seasonic compared to these Corsair SF750s in particular (also SF600) I was 100% blown away. Corsair wins unconditionally. The interior is built with beauty and pride and will last for decades. When I finally opened up my SF750 and SF600 everything was beautiful. It's especially important to note that the SF750's cables are made from full, yet ultra-thin, braided nylon materials with shorter lengths, allowing for nice cable routing in tight spaces. All SFX power supply cables must be routed this way as it is of utmost importance to us SFFPC builders. Note that the included cables for the SF750 save you another $55-$100 on custom cables, so it's totally worth the price.

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Low repairability
