Review on Reliable and High Performance Transcend 256GB SDXC/SDHC 300S Memory Card - TS256GSDC300S by Sri Mims

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good SD card

I give this product 3 stars because of the way it is advertised. The description states that it can reach read speeds of up to 95 MB/s and write speeds of up to 45 MB/s. I tested mine as soon as I received it with a PC and a USB connection where you plug the SD straight into the adapter so no camera is needed. It's a V30 rated SD card and meets that standard (writes at 30MB/s) but when I recorded a large file to it (around 3GB) it was a good emulation of what was going on in the camera when creating HD videos or UHD. average of 31 MB/s. So it's up to the V30 spec but no better, so for my SD it's a far cry from Revain's description of up to 45MB/s. If you look at the percentage of errors in that statement, it's 50%, which is incredibly BAD. For reading, I switched from this SD to mechanical RAID, which gives me a write speed of around 260MB/s, so enough speed to test the readability of this SD. I'm only getting 72MB/s reading and writing to the RAID. I then wrote to the RAID from another mechanical drive and wrote at the speed the other drive could read, which is around 175MB/s. I also have Windows 7, and Windows 7 always shows the average write time for the write you're doing, so that's a good indicator of what happened throughout the write. Since reading is rated at up to 95MB/s and I only got 72MB/s, the error is around 25%. Please note this is an error in the description in the Revain listing for this item, it may not be an error. as specified by the manufacturer. This is also an SD V30, which is only required for 30 MB/s recording. I haven't bothered to find out what reading speed is advertised by the manufacturer, and they often don't advertise it either. What I do know for sure is that if I were the manufacturer and stated the specs and my specs were off by 25% and 50%, I would have a whole bunch of dissatisfied customers, many of whom would want to return the product. So buy this item to save some money but don't think you'll get much and you can actually use it to record UHD video in more RAW formats that really require SD which is 45MB/ s or higher, and that certainly applies to the various video capture formats for newer SLRs that capture UHD video. This is an older SD, so you also need to understand that age affects lifespan. Therefore, it might be better to just buy a newer version of this product and pay a bit more money. If you need to record around 240-280Mbps, your best bet is to buy a V60 SD card and pay the extra money, knowing your SD card can keep up. Or buy one that's proven to write at an average speed of 45MB/s and there are a few listed on the product. The only thing that says speed about this product is the V30.
