SmartCat vs. Weruva: Cat Litter and Hacking

I'm not sure how many people will buy SmartCat All Natural Cat Litter with it, but if you're here, here's my take on it. We used SmartCat but decided to give it a try. The litter is larger because the pieces are granules. It doesn't track as much as SmartCat, but it does track a little. Instead of spreading it all over the room next to the tray and some rooms outside of it, we just get a few pellets in the same room as the tray. It doesn't clump as well as the SmartCat, but it sifts well enough to require a bit more effort with our scoop due to the size of the granules. The SmartCat doesn't actually have an odor, but the Weruva does have a faint odor, especially from the Hinoki. Our cat doesn't usually like strong smells and initially preferred using the SmartCat litter box. When both boxes were handed over to Veruvu, he sometimes tried to go outside the box. However, with a bit of bribery (positive reinforcement and treats), he fully transformed with no problems. Some cats are much more picky about such things and may never change. Our previous cat only used Fresh Step. Just be aware if your cat is picky about litter. EDIT: 4 month update, 1 star removed. We had to go back to SmartCat as one of our cats is allergic to Weruva litter which also produces quite a bit of dust making the problem worse. Looking back, I realize how much more exhausting it is to scoop Weruva filler. I can pick up SmartCat bedding and the fine granules fall through the slots in the scoop on their own with no (or very little) sieving. Weruva litter requires a scoop with large slots for pellets and even then there is a lot of sifting which is a problem as it doesn't form strong clumps and sifting breaks up clumps. Here's a method for Weruva litter that I think works relatively well: Minimize sifting: Use a shovel to lift up the clump and surrounding granules. Empty whatever is on top of the filler in the box. Loose granules will fall off. Then carefully collect the lump. This works best when your cats don't cover the urine so you can see wet patches on the surface. Otherwise, you'll have to carefully probe with a shovel to find clumps without breaking them.
