It works, I covered the flashing red light with a small square of electrical tape which redirects too bright light to other fake LED bulbs and creates a more real effect - in total darkness the red flashing is too bright environment. The flashing definitely lasts a long time with two AA batteries. For the right applications this is great, in any situation where the person you're trying to fool can get closer than about 10ft - there's a pretty good chance they can tell it's old. In this situation I would buy a broken piece of real hardware off eBay but $5 each with all the hardware etc. Definitely a good deal.
