Many reviews have been written about multicookers getting very hot on the outside and getting hot on low settings. Having to buy a new slow cooker, I decided to test mine before cooking anything in it. This device looks the same as all other brands. I filled the device 3/4 with water, set it to low and checked the temperature after 4 hours. The water temperature inside was 199 degrees. The scary thing is that the temperature of the outside surface was 186 degrees. It's hot enough to burn someone and possibly melt plastic items if covered. As a retired firefighter, I always used a slow cooker for cooking, either on the stovetop or on a baking sheet on a raised rack on a hard, flat surface with no cabinets above. Since multi-cookers are made with a metallic appearance the risk of fire is, or should be, low, but a fire from one of them isn't impossible either, so I take extra precautions while others should as multi-cookers are designed for that in most cases . cook while no one is around to really watch them the whole time. Multicookers are great helpers in the kitchen, but common sense should always be used when using them. Also, the baking sheet catches what I call a burp when you have it instead of running across the surface it's sitting on.
