Review on Govinda White Copal Incense Resin by Hunter Feerey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The real thing: Gum dammar from India or Southeast Asia

First, please note that just like incense, there is confusion because words have different meanings in different places. If you order copal online from a source in South or Central America, you will most likely get turpentine or something similar. This is partly because the word copal is synonymous with incense in this part of the world. In my case, I came across "copal" in a specialty shop a few years ago and immediately fell in love with this fragrance. I ordered some things that looked the same but were not the same at all. In fact, it was turpentine. Eventually I read enough to understand why this was happening and ordered a sample that contained real copal from India. It was a small amount and it was used up quickly. After comparing prices for several buying options online I decided on Govinda White Copal based on the exceptional value and of course the product's provenance as advertised on the packaging as 'Indonesia'. makes sense to buy only one bag weighing one pound. I didn't have much faith that it would be what I hoped it would be, but I had to figure out a price of $15 a pound. order, thanks to the incredibly efficient order fulfillment you get with Prime. I'll never know how they do it. That sure isn't the same as Sears & Roebuck's mail order business in the '60s. Anyway, as soon as I got to the car I opened the package and couldn't wait to see if it had the right scent. For some reason it didn't have the right scent so I closed it up again and was going to send it back to Revane tomorrow. But of course I had to taste it to be sure - there was no way I could assume it wasn't real from sniffing in the bag. The size of the pieces bothered me a bit. The pieces are huge, some almost the size of a large marble. But I've found that using a small pair of tongs crumbles the pieces with less force than it takes to pry open a pecan. As it crumbled, I was amazed at the purity and brilliance of the small crystal-like pieces. Almost like pure quartz. I lit some charcoal and then placed a few small pieces on top of the hot charcoal. The scent was there immediately and I had no doubt whatsoever that it was genuine and that I had a stash that would probably last me for several years and that I only paid $15 for it. also called "Gum Dammar", sometimes spelled with a single "m" and not always with the word "gum". Sometimes just "dammar" or "damar". It is better to search for this name. You can find "dammar" on Wikipedia. It grows in East Asia and India. To ensure you are purchasing the correct item you need to ensure that the product you are purchasing is from India or Indonesia and ideally it says 'dammar' or 'damar' on it. But if you are looking for a real bargain, I sincerely recommend you to just order the Govinda product in quantity you think you need. This is the original and it's great, top notch quality and I seriously doubt you'll find a better price. If you find a better price it won't be much better and you will most likely be ordering from an unreliable source, while if you order Govinda from Revain from a Revain Fulfillment seller, you will have Revain fine. - established reputation, and if you have Prime, then you will get it in just a few days. Yes I know it sounds like some kind of advertisement but I am so happy with this product and this purchase that I can't help it. I have tried other types of loose incense, ie resin, including frankincense, myrrh and benzoin, as well as popular blends, but none compare to real dammar. If I ever decide to buy other incense sticks I'll start with the Govinda brand and of course order from the Revain dealer. Good luck, happy shopping.
