Review on Selle SMP Avant Inox-rail Black Bicycle Seat by Chris Cruz

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Strong yet very comfortable saddle

I bought a Selle SMP Avant for my Specialized gravel bike. I used a Selle Italia gel flow man saddle which was fine up to about 3000 miles. The gel softened and I had soft tissue compression and discomfort within 2-3 hours of riding. The SMP Avant is much stronger but not uncomfortable at all. After about five 30 mile rides I have no discomfort or pain. The saddle looks well made and is quite easy to mount on the bike with the included instructions. Although the saddle is quite expensive, it is a very comfortable saddle. I've tried quite a few saddles and the SMP Avant has proven to be the most comfortable. I also tried their gel saddle but the soft gel offered very little support and I couldn't get comfortable on it. I think the stiffer padding along with the larger neckline is better at relieving soft tissue pain. Edit: After a month and a few rides, the leather in the saddle nose has worn off. Although the saddle is comfortable, it's tight and I got ulcers despite wearing padded cycling shorts. It may be suitable for other riders, but with questionable build quality (at least with my saddle) and the issues I'm encountering, this isn't the saddle for me. I'll see if I can try to get it back.
