Meets all lighting and ceiling fan requirements
It's definitely some type of ceramic (or plaster of paris), not plastic. They have a smooth surface, not rough or chalky. Meets my 2 needs: 1. a spare bulb so you don't have to throw it all away when it goes out and 2. directs the light up and down instead of towards your face. Mine came with lightbulbs (and everything else needed for installation).
