We have decided to remove the lining from our chimney. It stretched from floor to ceiling and was about 35 years old. I surrounded this area with thick plastic and attempted to remove it with a hammer and chisel. The next step was to try my little Bosch hammer drill. rejection. So after a long research I ordered a Makita 4041C. He arrived a day early. I put the chisel in the chuck and left. Less than 45 minutes later I completely removed the brick cladding. This device was powerful enough for the job and easy to use. Now I'm not young and I'm not strong. However, I had no problem handling this hammer. I have three other projects ranging from floor tile removal to 4 inch concrete demolition. I look forward to the same success. I know that's a lot of money for the layman, but the home centers were charging over $40 a day in rent and their little hammers weren't nearly as powerful as this one. I checked Craigslist in Southern California and none of it was offered. So is it worth the price? Just removing floor tiles and facing bricks costs the tool three times as much, according to the lowest estimates. Heck, I'm retired and my time is free so my answer is YES. Remember, you MUST wear eye, hearing and respiratory protection when using this tool. Seriously, don't be stupid. Protective gear is cheap.
