**Full Disclosure** I received an email with a coupon code in return for my review. I wrote this review anyway so she just gave me a coupon code. Good if everything works! My dog got really sick earlier this year which prompted me to look for old photos and videos to make sure they are kept and safe (I love this dog even if he steals the bed and snores in my ear). Unfortunately, a significant portion of the photos/videos were on an old PC that was so corrupted it wouldn't even boot. I was panicking thinking that I would lose more than 5 years of memories. I was desperate and wrote online for help and someone suggested that I should try removing the hard drive from the old PC and use the dock to copy files to the new PC. I did a search and found this one, reasonably priced and with decent reviews that didn't seem fake. I couldn't spend more than $100 on something I wasn't even sure would work, so it seemed like a fair compromise. It's pretty easy to use, if you're someone who knows things like this exist you probably already know how to use it, but basic instructions are included. If you're not computer savvy, it's probably better to ask for help, as you can mess things up (read: damage your drive) if you're not careful. Unless you're good with computers, you probably don't know where to find your hard drive anyway, so this is probably all a moot point. The hard drive I was trying to recover from appeared as a separate drive where I could copy the files I wanted to keep to the new computer's desktop. You connect the docking station to your computer via the USB port. I found the files copied over pretty quickly considering I've been moving for over 5 years (and I take a lot of photos and never edit the bad ones because I'm lazy and forgetful). Didn't have to install anything, it was just plug and play which was nice. I haven't used these features, but I noticed that there is a slot on the front for other things, including so-called X memory, SD card, CF and MS (I have no idea what that is, except for SD -Cards). Some caveats: It doesn't seem to fit ALL hard drives. I have a hard drive (though from a very old computer, so I don't necessarily push it into the dock) that doesn't fit. I'm at a loss as to how to deal with this, but at least I have a backup copy of the main file. The plastic rib on the back (which I believe is intended to support the hard drive in the stand) feels brittle and will most likely break in the future. But for the price, it's hard to beat. I'm just so grateful that 1) this thing exists and 2) someone was kind enough to tell me about it so I could get the photos and videos that mean so much to me. me. You've heard all about how idiots people are on the internet, but this time the internet really came and helped me when I thought I was going to lose my dog. (I'm also happy to report that my dog has stopped acting like he's about to die!)
