The speaker looks and feels good. It connects to your audio device (phone, tablet, etc.) and increases the volume significantly. Volume is controlled by the audio device used and is loud enough for small groups or listening in moving vehicles with excessive ambient noise. It has a built-in battery and charges via a standard USB cable for a non-iPhone phone. The cable that comes with the speaker is only about 10 inches long, which should be enough if you're plugging it into a laptop or desktop computer for charging. If you need a longer cable, just use the cable you use to charge your phone. The speaker is turned on and off with the button on the back in the center of the speaker. When it's on, a tiny blue light glows within the black grid surrounding the button. When it turns red, the speaker needs to be charged. It is better to turn off the speaker while charging. During charging, the indicator will remain red until fully charged, after which it will turn off. (Actually, there are two separate indicators for this function - blue and red). This external speaker is worth the money. Although it is fully functional and well made, its size might make it strange for some people to connect it to a mobile phone. If you want a "convenience device" in public places and you want it a bit more stylish, you probably already have an audio device that doesn't need a personal second speaker anyway. I was very happy with mine. You will not be disappointed.
