This large sensor appears to be of very high quality and I'm totally satisfied *(I've changed my mind on this comment, see update below). The polycarbonate lens is thick and the stylus is vibration-dampened so it feels smooth and clear even when mounted close to the engine. I used to try to be a cheapskate and bought the Winters PEM series (http://www.amazon.com). .com/Winters-Economy-Pressure-Display-Accuracy/dp/B0087UBCIE) which came straight out with a non-working reading of about -20psi. This sensor is small, cheap and doesn't look like it's meant to impress or last long, just for sale. On the other hand, this sensor is a purchase that I do not regret (apart from a small amount, see update below). Even though it was 5x more expensive than Winters, the Winters scale sucks, so at least you get bang for your buck in this case. Nice features: 1) The scale is large. Look for pictures of it online to get an idea. Not only does the size look impressive, but it also improves your ability to read faces with high accuracy. I can easily tell if it's 1/4, 1/2 or 3/4 torr (not that it matters, see update below). 2) This pressure gauge is used on high-quality laboratory pumps directly from the manufacturer. . I've seen it on KNF Laboport for example (Edit: These pumps don't typically go below 10 Torr, making the limitations of this gauge not a big deal). easy to understand. This can come in handy at some point when you are cleaning or trying to do small repairs. In order to open the Winters pressure gauge, it was necessary to deform / break the metal case. 4) An easily accessible calibration screw is located on the front panel with a plug covering the access hole. This is useful for zeroing the gauge after installation (if you install it from the side, the needle will be crooked due to the weight of the needle and inner tube.) 5) The green color is sexy and the name is pretty cool to. :) If you're looking for a long range analog meter, this is probably it (or the equivalent with a different scale). Update: Thought it would be good to update it after I have it. for some time. While I really liked it compared to other sensors I've used and is definitely better quality than most other sensors, it does have one major downside. The meter I got doesn't read near zero when pulled near zero. Actually it shows about 10-20mmHg, when the pressure reaches 0.1mmHg it doesn't go lower. You can calibrate it to read zero on zero when you know you have a good working pump (but then why would you need a gauge?), but when the vacuum is released the gauge will now show 740-750 mmHg. Art. because you did not calibrate the upper limit correctly. Keep in mind that if you decide to zero calibrate it, you should probably zero calibrate to 10mm/h and then just remember that you did it because if you look closely at the zero mark you will notice that it is a wide band. There are actually no zero marks, which leads me to believe that Yellowjacket knew this sensor wasn't capable of reading values that low. I'd say this gauge is probably good if you need to know what vacuum you're in within 5% or more (I mean +/- 20 torr). In other words, it gives you an idea of where you are. Unfortunately, most of us use this to get close to zero, so it's a shame they don't offer an analog meter that's accurate in that range. I think most of us would happily give up the first 660 torr in favor of a meter that would give us a low reading of 0-100 or even 0-50 accurately. You can also throw away the vacuum cleaner and vacuum from a hose instead. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, it's still the best option, just like water is the top drink at Taco Bell. Take what you can, I suppose.
