I lost my old stud finder last year so it's time to find a replacement. I didn't want to buy anything too cheap, because really cheap ones turn out to be junk. I was pleasantly surprised that this spike finder works really well. I mainly use it to find studs in the walls of my home and rental properties that I own. This nail finder works well with 1/2" and 5/8" drywall and is fairly accurate. It's actually more accurate than my old spike finder because it detects the spikes closer to the edge. My old lug finder usually started finding what he thought was the edge of the lug about 1/2 inch short of the actual edge. So I often drove in a small "pilot" nail to make sure I was driving the tenon in properly. The "Center" locator is very useful as I always try to find it in a rack. "Basic" mode, enough for everything I do. Metal mode was useful when searching for locations with metal pipes or pipes. I haven't used it much for this, but my rented house has a metal pipe and I had to use it. I tested it in several places where I knew there was a pipe and it sure found the pipe. It comes with free spirit level which is magnetized. There are three bubbles (0, 45 and 90 degrees). That's a nice addition.
