The Past Isn't What It Was

My 30 year old Vornado has always impressed me with its smooth, quiet airflow and reliability measured in fractions of a century. It has a speed controller that looks like a little lamp dimmer that's easily adjusted from a soft (literally) "I just want to feel some air on me" level, to a good chilled level, and all the way down to "that's all the papers." . . from my table." There is no comparison with it. It is much louder than the old one with the same amount of air, and the engine noise is strange: a screech is clearly heard. The human factor of the button on the back of the hub is ridiculous and it's obviously just for cost reasons. Whose idea was it to make this thing white? It scratches easily (mine came already worn) and collides with everything. White isn't the new black. Maybe it saves energy, maybe it doesn't. That sound will probably cost me my sanity. I also ordered a 3 speed gearbox. I'll see how this shaded pole motor performs on a dimmer. That would be nice because I have smart dimmers so I could have remote controlled fans.
