Great comfort but weird design

As a sleepy person, I dig percale. I have found this to be by far the coolest material to sleep on or under since I was a child. Like many others, I've been trying to find the kind of "vintage" percale we grew up with: thick, heavy, and very crunchy. I even remember the frayed edges of my childhood percale. I haven't been able to find anything else that compares since then and this duvet cover is no exception. However, this was the first time I tried Pima cotton. I was initially skeptical and wondered how different it could be from regular (and less expensive) cotton. Well, I can definitely tell you that it's significantly different, for better or for worse. The first thing I noticed was that this material is significantly softer than my other percale bedding. You can tell the fabric is definitely percale but has an "oilier" feel. It's actually quite luxurious. Not exactly what I expected, but it was a pleasant surprise nonetheless. I can honestly say I've never seen anything like it and I have to admit it's very handy. However, it's not the thick and crunchy stuff I was hoping for. It's not very thin, probably more of a medium thickness that leans more on the thinner side. It's still crispy but not hard crispy. I think this pima cotton percale will appeal to both percale lovers and satin lovers alike. It has the matte appearance of percale, the cool freshness of percale, and the smooth softness of satin. I use a lightweight mulberry silk comforter under this comforter and it is absolute bliss. The only real complaint I have about this duvet cover is the design. The zipper is fantastic and the hem around it is a great feature. But what I absolutely hate are the two gaping holes (one on each side) in the top corners. When I first saw it I thought the lid was damaged. It looked like it was about to fall apart at the seams. Also, there is a free piece of thread at this point (see attached photo). But then I saw that there was another hole of the same size in the opposite corner, so I went back to that list to read the description. Of course, these holes are intentional and not the result of damage or poor workmanship. They appear to be there to make adjusting the insert easier, but I think this is a completely useless and unnecessary feature for two reasons: 1) the bars hold the insert in place, eliminating the need for holes, and 2 ) it exposes the insert, making it less secure. . Why have a zip pocket to seal everything when there are holes at the top? Personally, I prefer duvet covers that have zips so the entire liner is airtight and therefore more resistant to dust mites. I just hate that they contain these holes and I've never seen that in a duvet cover before. The hole situation almost made me give this bedspread 3 stars instead of 4, but it's so practical I'm willing to ignore it. Now that I've tried Pima Cotton Percale I'm spoiled and don't think I can use anything else again. I just hope Peru Pima redesigns and eliminates these holes because they are unnecessary and ugly.
