MB V Advanced Mode may stop freezing on Sony A7iii

Note: I previously wrote this response to another person's review about MB V freezing on their Sony. I'll quote my previous answer and add an update below." We have Sony A7ii and a7iii. We also have Metabones IV and Metabones V. We also have Canon 70-200 2.8 L is II and other Canon lenses (and Tamron & Sigma). Our MB V EF-E T randomly freezes both Sony cameras. Our MB IV doesn't freeze our Sony cameras (although it hunts often). I took the lenses, adapters and cameras to my local Shutterbug store. The technician experienced the same. But with the Sigma Art lens we own and the Sony 70-300G lens we rented, it never freezes. The obvious comment is "use native glass" Yes of course but I love my Tamron 150-600 G2 for birds in flight. It works with my Canon lenses and my husband's A7ii and MB IV. Installed on Sony A7iii with MB V, occasional freezing and focus issues. All Firmwares have been updated UPDATE: As I wrote above ha be, we permanently put MB V in advanced mode. We had no freezes in advanced mode. We have found that Advanced allows us to use DMF focus mode at High+ drive speed and we can perform peak focus (!) AF (!) on our Sony A7iii fast enough to get some sharp photos of hummingbirds with a Tamron 150-600 G2 or Sony 70-200 2.8L IS II. (Admittedly, lobsters don't move at top speed, as they move more slowly the closer they get to their feeding grounds.) So far, so good. I'll post some photos later. Advanced mode isn't perfect, but it seems more reliable than green mode for wildlife photography. Deer, wild turkey, quail etc. Now my husband is experimenting with Advanced on his MB IV and Sony A7ii. I would advise everyone to read the user support pages on Metabones.com (yes, they're terribly confusing, but be persistent. If you're having freezing issues, try switching from the default green mode to advanced mode switch. And try DMF autofus mode.)

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
