compare to other collars this is very cheap and worked well when i first got it. Over time, I noticed that the shock and vibration functions have significantly less power. I can set it on the highest shock level and it doesn't even phase my dog whereas when I first got it I could set it on two settings and it would yelp and run straight at me. I even tested it on myself to make sure it didn't go deaf from impact - similar to static electricity. I think if you use it regularly when you first get it and get your dog used to the sound you should be fine. This usually works for my dog, unless he finds something really interesting (like a squirrel or another dog).
