These are our cats’ go-to soft carriers, which we figured would be best for an 8,000 mile permanent move from Germany to Hawai’i by plane. Originally, we were planning on carrying one cat on the plane with a Siivton soft carrier and checking the other cat in a hard crate due to behavioral concerns. We kept another Siivton soft carrier in our checked bag in case of an emergency, and thank goodness we did! We got to the gate of our first flight and found out the hard crate we had checked wasn’t approved to fly due to a minor structural issue- and all of our things were off-boarded! At that point, we were so grateful we had our other Siivton soft carrier in a checked bag- it came in clutch! We were able to pull it out and fly later that day.I can confirm Siivton soft carriers work on Lufthansa, which is extremely picky, United, and Hawaiian. Our cats have totally different temperaments- one is babyish but well behaved the other independent and more cat-like, admittedly with an incontinence issue- and both love these carriers. If you set up the carrier as I indicate below, cleanup is not as problematic as it may seem, either.Shopping list: This Siivton carrier, Feliway wipes, Solimo flushable wipes, puppy pads, and Rabbitgoo harnesses are the dream team for taking cats on long-distance flights. All of these can be bought on Ebay.Setup for Long-Distance Flights:1. Setup the carrier so three sides are securely up and held on so they don’t collapse in on the cat, and then make it so one of the smaller sides is pulled down for an easy window.2. Wipe down the carrier with Feliway wipes or spray with a TSA-sized Feliway spray.3. Fold in the whole soft bottom so it turns into a square rather than an X, leaving the easy clean-up side facing up. Pull out only one of the smaller extendable sides of the pad.4. Wrap the whole thing in a puppy pad and insert so the extendable side of the pad you pulled out is in line with the extendable portion of the carrier you left open.5. We secured our cats to the carrier with Rabbitgoo harnesses, leaving most of the slack of the leash in the carrier and tying the end to the top strap holder. The carrier comes with a harness attachment but it’s small and is better for short distances and familiar areas, like a car. Check Rabbitgoo harness status periodically on the flight to make sure they don’t tangle themselves.*These cases hold on great to suitcase handles. When we did have to walk with our many bags, we’d situate each cat on top of a small suitcase and roll them together.Good luck! If you’re worried about traveling long-distance with your furbaby, you can count on our dream-team list of supplies and setup instructions.Thank you again, Siivton, for making moving with our pets possible!
