Review on Wood Trick Pendulum Clock Wooden by Brian West

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Nice construction, small defect on one of the gears

Took me about 10 hours to fully assemble this item. The final product looks great, but I'm still working on making it work properly. Upon reassembly, I found that two gears (19 and 20 on page 9) were misaligned. Another review also noticed this, noting that if you rotate the gear 90 degrees, it aligns correctly. However, this is not the case as the center hole is shifted. I was able to fix this with a dremel and a small attachment. After assembly, I encountered several issues, partly due to missing small details in the instructions. First, the axle carrying the pendulum kept falling out of the guide holes. On page 3 in step 8 it says that the toothpick used must overlap the sheet of plywood to prevent this. Keep this in mind when assembling. The second problem I had was that the front piece (item 38 on page 7) had slipped off the toothpicks. This tangled the wind line and stopped the counterweight. I solved this problem by unwinding the rope, inserting the toothpicks all the way in and securing them with superglue. The problem I had was that the kit didn't include enough wax to properly lubricate all the moving parts. I was able to solve this problem using graphite for additional lubrication. Overall this is a really cool project and I would rate it higher if it wasn't for a manufacturer error (caused gears) and not enough wax in the kit.
