I use mini oven mitts and a suction cap all the time. Mini caps are the best of the three. The inner pot is easy to take out and the thumb lid makes it very convenient to take hot food out of the oven. I use this more often than my bulky oven mitts when I need to move hot pans/pans in and out of the oven. If the pan is very hot you will need to use a better oven mitt as you will feel the heat as it is not made for this purpose anyway. The suction cup lid provides a good seal to keep your food covered and warm. I don't use heat resistant pads. I received it in gray as red was not available when I bought it. Gray tones will show water stains if not wiped dry after cleaning. If I buy this again I'll get the red color as my other red silicone products don't water stain as easily as the gray ones.
