I love this backpack. It is very well made, sturdy and durable. It can take a lot, although I always need more space. Believe me, that's enough. There isn't much padding in the laptop compartment. Although it is quite suitable for my 15 inch laptop. Some people have commented on the zipper protection. Yes, they're a little annoying, but they exist for a purpose! The locks work perfectly. I carry heavy textbooks with me every day and the bag holds up well. There are no signs of wear on the strap or tears in the inner fabric. You can't constantly abuse a bag and expect it to never fall apart, but I think damaging even the outside of this bag would be quite difficult. I've seen the inner lining tear when you carelessly slide in many heavy, sharp objects. I love the side pockets and the separate zippered compartments are good for separating and organizing things. I don't know too much about how waterproof this is as I haven't "tested" it or gotten into a downpour with a bag. I think the main purpose of this particular bag is for a student, but it can be used for travel (like any bag). It has space for a change of clothes, a pair of shoes, your laptop, some toiletries and a few other personal items. This is a strong, durable, roomy and attractive backpack at a great price. Definitely recommend to every student. There are probably better options for backpackers and travelers, but you can certainly "get by" with these for those purposes as well. ***Update: I've been using this backpack every day for the past two years (for both college and personal use). It has been used a lot and is still in very good condition. All zippers still work well, neither inside nor outside, nothing has come open or torn. I highly recommend this backpack.
