I ordered this to replace an accidentally burned out milk watering can. I wanted a sturdier jug, it had a larger capacity and a more secure grip. It holds more, about 10 ounces, so that's a good thing, what I don't like is that the spouts are tiny and always either leaking (if you're pouring fast) or dripping (if you're pouring slowly). I also don't like the handle - it's metal, and while it's better than my previous replacement, it still heats up, but not as quickly or as hot as the pot it replaces. I haven't tried melting butter in it, I think you'll have the same problems.
