My biggest criticism of women's clothing is that we have small pockets and often don't have room for our cell phone. You can also use the pen on your wrist, but I mostly carry it as a crossbody bag. This is my walk on the beach, walking the dogs, cycling with a new bag. The outer pocket is small and divided, you can put some coins on one side and headphones on the other. There is a pocket on the outside that will fit thin reading glasses or a phone if you feel it's secure enough. My phone is pretty tight, but I wouldn't risk it outside on a bike ride.
