Manufacturing defects are all too common.
I got a set for my daughter for Christmas - it caught fire once then refused to turn it off. I took the batteries out and put them back in and it won't turn on. So we sent them back for a replacement, the replacement doesn't turn on at all. We didn't bother to return it, we just finished.
