Review on GoVideo VR4940: Top-quality Progressive-Scan DVD Player/Recorder with VCR by Scott Ramu

So far I'm very satisfied

I've finally decided to jump into the "digital world" and convert hundreds of VHS tapes (mostly from HBO/Showtime over the years) to DVD. The first thing to understand is that if you have a bad VHS (bad sound or picture quality), you have a bad DVD. It simply transfers the content of the VHS directly to the DVD, just like the VHS. You simply change the type of media it is stored on. This does not improve the quality of the original VHS. However, most of my tapes were recorded from a satellite dish in a standard two hour playback mode and in Dolby Stereo format. The recording quality of my DVD with this player was excellent. I've copied dozens of high quality VHS tapes to DVD and they play perfectly on my other two DVD players. No gaps etc. But that's only on the -R DVD. Note: DVDs will ONLY be burned to DVD -R and -RW (not +R or +RW) so make sure you purchase the correct DVD format. I have found that some copies I made on DVD-RW (even in "compatible" video format) do not play at all on any of my DVD players. Therefore, I do not recommend -RW DVD. Operation is simple; The guide is good for basic one-touch capture, but quite difficult in the DVD's custom chapter editing sections. This is my second GoVideo product (they also have a dual deck VCR). So far I am very satisfied with his work.
