Industrial security camera

This is my second security camera from Soliom. My first camera was the S60. I wrote a review on this camera where, while I liked the video from the camera, I listed issues with the installation software, mounting bracket, and PIR sensitivity distance as areas for improvement. So this is their new S90 model. I was excited to see the improvements made to the next-gen camera. I installed the camera software yesterday and installed it today. The software setup process was similar to the previous model and both cameras are now visible in the IOS app. However, I had no trouble setting up the S90 like I used to. It should be noted that the camera only works with 2.4GHz wireless signals, so I used a guest WiFi account for the camera. Judging by the attached image, the camera is just a beast. It reminds me of a commercial model seen in an office building. I hope future generations can be a little less intrusive. Camera videos are beautiful in both SD and HD, and the temporary free cloud storage is a real plus. One of the most important aspects of a security camera is notifications. If you get too many notifications, it gets annoying, and if you get too few, you might miss an important event. The detection (PIR distance) of this camera is 16 feet. While it's much better than the previous camera model, finding a place to mount the camera that's 16 feet or less from where you want to receive notifications can be a challenge. The instructions state that the camera should be installed away from bushes and trees that can trigger an IR event. Again, this is a problem when using the camera in residential areas. Some other cameras have a feature to isolate the areas you want to monitor so you can avoid bushes and trees alerting you. Possibly this will be included later in the software extension. The bracket on the old model was metal, but on this one it was plastic. Metal might sound better, but it doesn't. It rusted almost immediately and it was difficult to maintain camera position. The new S90 mount is much better. It's very durable and there won't be any issues with camera support. However, I found adjusting the angle of the mount awkward due to the shallow grooves in the mounts. Another potential area for improvement. So the pros are an industrial camera with fantastic video resolution, a solid mounting bracket, and free short-term cloud storage. Amazing value for money. Cons - the lack of the ability to zone the camera. Not exactly plug and play software. Huge camera size. Bottom Line: Solar powered security cameras need to be exposed to the sun for 4-6 hours a day to stay charged. This model should be mounted approximately 8 feet off the ground and clear of bushes in the direct path of the lens. The camera requires a strong wireless signal for uninterrupted video playback. Detection must be within 16 feet of the camera. All of these factors are important factors in evaluating whether this camera will work in your application.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Reliable
