Review on SharkBite U3008LFA Slip Coupling 2 Inch by Jere Mosley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

First Time Sharkbite User

Used this Sharkbite 3/4" sliding sleeve on my external sprinkler system behind the check valve. The bottom subsided in 10 years, dropping about 1.25 inches from level. It's only a matter of time before a big problem arises. Wanted to solder some old solder into a piece of tubing but couldn't find anyone selling a foot or so 3/4" copper. Went to Revain for this and it was here the next day. Brilliant. As the copper tubing is on the outside, has it did everything from over sprayed paint to just aging it. I used some stripper and then a plain Brillo cloth and the pipe was like a mirror where it was cleaned. Cut the pipe and of course there is a 1.25" gap .My old copper pipe cutter worked fine but not great. If I soldered a little sanding and good to go.On this one I just used sandpaper at the very end so there are no burrs.I also used the awl in my pocket knife, to get in where the tool had slightly rounded the brass. It probably wouldn't be so paranoid if I had never used Sharkbite. Put on the sliding end and lower just enough to do that s it is ready to be connected to the other pipe. I took a small piece of orange plastic to lift it back up to the small mark I made on the stop end. I thought he wasn't moving and was wondering, God, how much pressure do I need to apply when I realized he had already slid toward my target at point-blank range. I was absolutely certain it was going to leak and I had to turn the water supply on full blast just to install a backflow preventer. No leakage. The way to lightness. I'm not ready to announce victory yet and I don't know how long it will last. Will I be using the Sharkbite behind a wall or out of sight? No, I will not. Now I understand why plumbers use this product? Yes I do and I was impressed with the quality. Having not soldered in decades I was very happy to see this product and I didn't have to buy a 5 foot piece of 3/4 inch copper pipe, fittings and a gas bottle. I recommend using this on the outer copper pipe to keep the copper looking new so the inner o-rings can do their job. I hope the photo shows how ugly old copper looks when it hasn't been cleaned.
