Review on Canon 35Mm USM Wide Angle Lens by Michael Baek ᠌

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Some minuses and no pluses, do not buy.

Bought the lens a couple of months ago. For a long time I wanted to buy it for my 6d mark II, I read reviews and feedback from the owners, which were completely positive. General positive first impressions of the purchase (appearance and design) quickly gave way to disappointment. Photos came out blurry, regardless of the aperture. As much as this lens is more expensive than the EF 50 / f1.8 STM, sharpness turned out to be just as worse. As an amateur photographer, and not a professional, I even began to doubt my abilities. I handed over the camera and lenses for adjustment, after which my doubts about my own abilities were dispelled, as they confirmed problems with setting up the camera itself and the lens, which had a significant front focus. But after adjustment, the problem with the general "soapiness" did not go away, the sharpness of the photos is still worse than the EF 50 / f1.8 STM and my second camera (Ricoh GR ii), which itself stands like this lens. Given that 35mm is my favorite focal length, very disappointed with the purchase. Let's see what the second trip to the service will give, but it is close to changing the system altogether.

Pros
  • Excellent construct. Despite the fact that the case is plastic, it feels just fine. Relatively compact and not very heavy. The presence of a stabilizer. Very fast autofocus (at least compared to EF 50/f1.8 STM).
Cons
  • My copy turned out to be not only with a significant front focus, but in general it gives a very soapy picture. Adjustment didn't help. For the second time in a couple of months I will go to the service.
